When God Was a Rabbit is told in two parts by the main character, Elly. Her life is an incredible, at some times unbelievable journey. It is a heartwarming story of an unbreakable bond between a brother and a sister. It's hard to explain this book because so much happens over such a long period of time. If you loved Forrest Gump, you will be pleasantly satisfied with this one.
I don't know what I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. It is a beautifully written piece of historical literature. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me want to punch Hilly Holbrook in the face. I love this book so much that I am spending my entire classroom budget on a set for this years novel study.
I first heard of Room on CBC. I was fascinated by the premise of a story written about a young woman abducted and held captive, sexually abused and later giving birth to a baby boy. The life the two live in a 11x11 room, is nothing less than amazing. The novel is narrated through the eyes of 5 year old Jack. It gives the reader a perspective rarely considered and is surprisingly refreshing. The author somehow created a disturbing reality into an intriguing read. One that I highly recommend you pick up.

So I just realized that you're back.... yay!!! I loved 'The Help' (who didn't?) I'll have to check out that first one.
I read 'To Kill a Mockingbird' this summer - I know it's a high school book that you might have analyzed to death but if you haven't read it... it is unreal.
