It's bustlin around here.

This week is trappers here. As well as it being festival week, our school has 15 students from Kanata doing a school exchange. It's a government program that pays for airfare and pairs up schools from across Canada. So our students will be going to Kanata in May for a week. I am really excited for them. Most of students rarely get out of here to go to Winnipeg, let alone a province over. As well many of our students have often been labelled as the bad the students, underachievers or misfits. This opportunity is huge for them. They get the opportunity to travel and experience new things, but they also get the opportunity to be part of a group.

If all goes well as a school we're planning on taking a group to Kenya in 2014 to build a school! It will be a huge undertaking and will take us awhile to fund raise. Especially because some of the parents are not very well off, nor involved. So a large part of the fundraising falls on the teachers. Which I don't mind. I believe in giving opportunities to kids. It's not their fault they don't have parents who are able or willing to be involved. Plus having an opportunity to travel to another continent is HUGE for these guys!

That was a little off topic. Back to trapper's....

This year is going to be low key. We don't have any company staying with us this year. However my sister and brother in law are coming to stay with my parents. I will make a "traditional" pancake breakfast with wild blueberries tomorrow morning and then probably go watch the dog sleds. Maybe we'll take in a few events around town. But I am skipping Rendevous and Beerfest this year. It's just not as fun when you're sober. I hate to say that, but it's the truth. Drunks are annoying when you're sober.

But I still love lacing up my mukluks ,watching dog races, eating bannock and jam,  going to the craft show and pancake breakfasts and whatever other events I happen to come across during the week. It's just nice to see so many new and old faces around town. I love seeing this event come together, maybe one of these years I willl volunteer. But for now I am committed to a lot of other things.
