A Different Perspective

The longer I breastfeed the more I realize less people do breastfeed. For various reasons, some simply couldn't, others preferred not to and some just didn't ever start. I am starting to feel like the minority in my circle of moms. I don't mind, I breastfeed because I love it. I don't know when I will stop, maybe I will channel Alannis Morrisette and stop when Mateo is 8? Probably not but we'll see.

The reasons I have come to love breastfeeding may not be for the obvious reasons. Sure the attachment and nourishment is great but you know what's better?

Being able to sneak away from gatherings that bore the shit out of you. Yup, I said it. When you are dying for that afternoon nap but know there is no conceivable way you are going to get it? Grab a child and say you have to nurse them. Who's going to tell you no? Thats's right NO ONE. Ok, ok maybe that child's mother might. But if you are lucky enough to have your own baby, breastfeeding comes in handy in this situation.

Let's be honest breastfeeding has come in handy more times than I can count. Oh, Mateo you are fussy? Here is a tit. Works most of the time.

Were you forgetful prior to having a baby? Well it gets worse but you can never forget your boobs!

And maybe the best treat from breastfeeding is the guilt free eating. Don't get me wrong there is a little myth you can eat whatever you want and nursing alone will burn those calories, well it's a lie. I know, disappointing eh? But here is the upside, you can eat whatever you want and mentally feel good about it. I never feel guilty for eating a delicious sandwich at midnight or eating half a batch of cookies. I eat it because I am hungry and I blame Mateo for making me hungry all the time not myself!

Like I said, many don't breastfeed but if you are looking for the less conventional reasons to, I can tell you they make it worth it!
