So another election has passed and not much has changed. Sure the Conservatives gained a few more seats but fell short of a majority government (thankfully), the Liberals lost a few (sniff, bye Dion), the NDP gained a few (I'm pleased), the Bloc held on strong (doesn't affect me) and the Greens couldn't squeak a seat in (May wasn't too far off). With that being said nothing really changed. It is still a minority government headed by a stubborn self serving leader.
Voter turn out was at an all time low. That didn't surprise me. Harper called an unnecessary election. He should have waited until he had a platform, considering he lacked that this time around. Of course there as a method to his madness. He actually believed he would get a majority, otherwise why would he break his own parliamentary law (hold elections every 4 years on a specific date... it was suppose to be Oct 2009)? Political pundants speculated he wanted to run before the Obama wave hit. In the end what did he prove? Sure he proved that the Liberals will need a new leader but what else?
I don't disagree that the Liberals will need to find a new leader. However I would argue that the Conservatives should consider new leadership. Harper has brought down the government and was unsuccessful in his bid for majority. Doesn't that say something? Why is the media so concerned about the Liberals? Maybe we should focus on who has the most power and whether or not he is what Canadians (well the Canadians who decided to vote in "participatory democracy").
Speaking of participatory democracy I think it's a shame that far too many people have forgotten the other side to their right to vote - their responsibility. That is all I will say about that.
Needless to say the Canadian taxpayers (that's all of us) just shelled out $300 000 000 on an election that did very little. Considering the economic status looming over us I am quite disappointed.

Well I have to say that this is one of your most well written posts. I'm completely unbiased, of course.
I have to agree on pretty much all of your sentiments, also.
On a side note, Dan read an article online at the Free Press that Steen's people are formally filing a complaint to elections Canada that the polls in our riding were extremely flawed and suggesting at corruption. Interesting to see where this goes. I don't think the supposed missing ballot box will amass over 1600 votes for Steen to give him the riding but we'll see.
Who knows but at least they're keeping them honest.
I went to Niki Ashton's fb and I saw D give her a shout out. I wanted to barf in my mouth while I proceeded to fb stalk him!
