The Plan Is In Motion....

My newest Amazon purchase was Adria Vasil's Ecoholic Home (Under a Canadian Roof). I have been scouring the Internet for ideas and there is so much information but a lot that I feel I already know. So I bought this book to save me time, especially the time I spend waiting for our Internet connection to come back. There are great things about rural living, the Internet is not one of them!

Tomorrow morning we're getting up bright and early to drive to Yorkton. There is a company there that does package deals for RTM's (ready to move homes). To get the ball rolling we need to get some quotes. Right now we're just doing our budgeting through hear say and over the phone. Which is not very reliable.

We have so many decisions to make. Right now we have to decide:

Treed lot or Cleared lot

I want a treed lot but there is more cost involved, however I think it's worth it in the long run.

RTM or Build

I don't know which is a better deal. So that's why we're going tomorrow.

Geothermal or Electric (Hydro)

Geothermal is more expensive up front. I am waiting to see if the province is going to up their rebates on the geothermal. Because we're building we don't qualify for the federal grant, it is only a retrofit grant. I am leaning towards Geothermal because not only are you using renewable energy you're also getting a relatively stable cost monthly for both heat and air conditioning. If we went with electric or gas our bills would range monthly plus we'd probably pass on the AC. We're not going to have a wood furnace because it's a lot of work and I am just not sure if I am up to it. I'd rather spend my energy on a garden in the summer then chopping wood. Plus Davide doesn't have the 2 months in the summer to help out like my parents.

So those are the decisions right now. Once those are made then I have to decide on how to clear the lot, house plans, where to put the house, what type of cupboards, flooring, paint, and appliance. This may sound fun to some but I don't like it. I am always afraid of making the wrong decision and I am very passive and will give into Davide really easy.
