This morning I went for a walk with my dad and the dogs. I had to put my seater on before I left the house. To me it's official - summer is done. Granted there is a couple weeks left of it on the calendar but once the sweaters start to come out summers over. Don't get me wrong, I love fall. So as always it's bittersweet.
We've officially moved to The Pas. Our house in Winnipeg is no longer ours and my parents basement is our new home for now! I am exhausted from organizing, packing, moving, cleaning, unpacking, cleaning and re-organizing. Sadly it's not done yet. But hopefully by this evening our living quarters will be done. Then onto the garage, well more so Davide moves on to the garage.
School starts next Monday. I am excited. Before I left Winnipeg I bought a pack of notebooks, pens and post its. Of course my lengthly time at university has taught me that's all I'll need. Gone are the days of scribblers, rulers, glue sticks and smelly markers. With that being said in a couple of years when I head to "my own" classroom I am sure they will make a comeback!
I am waiting here for the pictures of my last trip to load onto facebook. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy Toronto as much as I would have liked. I did however enjoy all the good food on the trip. The first day in Toronto we went on a search for some traditional Portuguese food. We found a pastry shop that had cheap but delicious choices. They directed us to a small Portuguese restraunt around the corner. There we found bbq chicken, rice, roasted baby potatoes and Sumol for $7.50. Needless to say our tummies and wallets were full after. Saturday we drove through ridiculous traffic on our way to Niagara Falls. But once we made it to Port Dalhousie for lunch at Anna Olsons Bakery we cheered up. I had a chicken cordon bleu panini, lemon blueberry tart and latte. It was so good, and again fairly cheap! Monday Davide and I went down to the Distilllery District in Toronto. We had a lunch at the Mill St. Brewery. I had a smoked gouda and steak wrap with a spinach salad. Davide had a lamb burger with yam fries. It's amazing how food can really impact your day. We of course ate at other places over the weekend but they just didn't make a lasting impression, they were chain restraunts with poor service and less the good entrees. I guess when you travel with a lot of people sometimes its hard to come to a consensus on a place to eat, most people like what they are use to so they will choose that or trying something new. Regardless we did get to try out some new places which I enjoyed.
The food wasn't the only enjoyable experience I had. I had fun with friends, liked seeing Niagara Falls especially from the top of the ferris wheel, and of course Amanda and Jordans wedding. The ceremony was in the forest in an opening on a little hill. They had candles and a quartet playing. They wrote their own vows and filled our eyes with tears. The reception was at the same place an eco-centre. The banquet room was nice a lot of homemade decorations which were creative. The dinner was fresh and delicious. The dance was outside under a glass gazebo style area with an open fire. It was a lovely night.
I guess I should get back to organizing.
