It's now 3 weeks into January and for the most part the urge to have a "new year" has subsided. Don't get me wrong, I always have plans of changing for the better but the guilt of not doing things the way you want is starting to go away. With that being said I haven't abandoned my new year resolutions, well completely.
On the recycling front, I have done nothing aside from consciously composting. Davide is not a composter however I grew up composting. So it's not uncommon for me to find apple peels in the garbage. I cringe at the sight of it. But rather than just concede I pick them out and fill the stinky compost pail that has been placed under the sink. Which by the way shouldn't be under the sink but my anal retentive husband is relentless.
I have been following sales at the grocery stores. It's actually amazing how much money you can save if you follow sales and cook accordingly. A couple of weeks ago I wanted to make a recipe with chicken breasts, I paid $24 for 8 breasts. I knew it was ridiculous but my brother was in for a visit and I asked him specifically what he wanted for supper. So I bought them. Well this week they were on for half price. Before I never paid attention to sales.
I also follow websites like babystealz.com where everyday they post products 40-70% off. I do have to pay shipping but I still end up saving. Online shops always have deals along with free shipping. I have to be conscious that I am not over shopping deals though, it's easy to do but defeats the purpose of shopping smart to save money.
And lastly, making my house a home. I ordered a print from Etsy and put it in a cheap frame above the stove. It was looking really bare and had 2 holes in the wall from where my mom had a little shelf and art work. So with my new print and a little piece of art I had, I made the kitchen a little more homey.

So did you buy the chicken on sale and put it in your freezer for next time?
