Easter

Easter has come early this year. Honestly I don't know why Easter changes every year, sometimes it's in March and sometimes it's in April. Needless to say with this late Winter and early Easter it doesn't feel like chicks should be hatching or bunnies should be hopping.

Mateo is still way to young to understand Easter. For whatever reason, probably because I had been away, our house doesn't look very Eastery, nor did Mateo get a picture with the Easter Bunny and there are no eggs hidden around here. Next year it will be different. I love holidays and love traditions.

As a child Easter wasn't a huge deal as we weren't religious. Easter meant a basket full of treats, an indoor egg hunt thanks to the mounds of snow or if we are lucky deep mud puddles, painted eggs and always a delicious meal.

I plan to do similar things. I love the idea of a rebirth at Easter, not from a religious aspect but from nature. As much as Easter has been commercialized it is also a holiday that lends itself well to nature and celebrating our earth. Depending on the year it's when the pussy willows pop, the buds start to form on the trees, robins return, and the days become just a bit longer.

As kids my parents didn't emphasis these things as lessons per say but we knew it because come Spring we were kicked outside. Who am I kidding we were kicked outside regardless of the season. If it was -30 we just huddled in our snow forts! Mateo watch out your turn is coming!

Anyway, traditions I will start this year are an Easter basket of treats, a meal and a nice Spring walk. What do you buy an 8 month old? Well this is what I bought. (I had plans of making a nice little collage, but gone are those days of long nurses that allowed me to use the lap top, now it's the iPhone during nap time)

I love the carrot romper and bunny sweater. Thanks to Gap for bringing out the Beatrix Potter line just in time for Easter. I love books and this one is great, especially the huge pop out in the end. Every kid needs their first bunny stuffy. I am sure this will be his last as well. As for treats, chocolate and sugar are not options this year so I substituted with yogurt bites and fruity puffs.
