So after my rant on stupid consumerism I told myself to stop overthinking everything. I decided to adopt this lovely little guy for Mateo. I chose a caribou because it's a regional threatened species. There is actually a herd in our area that is being tracked currently. Last year when Davide and I went to get a Christmas tree we saw the herd licking salt off the highway. They are magical creatures. So I thought who better than to start Mateo's collection.
The Woodland Caribou are on the threatened species list and there has been a lot of work done in the past few years trying to revive their existence in Manitoba. My friends dad actually heads the initiative.
Although I think it is important to be aware of global issues, I think it is equally important to know what it happening in your own backyard. Sometimes animals like the Polar Bear get all the attention (which they need) but there are definitely other animals we should be concerned about.
I plan to adopt animals annually and hopefully as Mateo grows he will recognize the importance of caring for his enviroment and all of the creatures living amongst him.

A few years ago when I drove home for Christmas (before D) we saw the herd in a clearing. The made me think of santa's reindeer. It was magically.
I'm glad you decided to do it.
What a great idea Marcia! I may steal it for Emilee!
