I am pretty close to being finished my Christmas shopping. I need a few more stocking stuffers but I definitely close. I did pretty decent on buying locally/handmade. I am working on my own handmade gifts too which I am super excited about. Luckily for me I am off for a week before Christmas so I'll hopefully get them done, or that would be embarressing.
I feel like I've been insanely busy lately. I may just be overreacting or it may just be that time of year. Regardless I feel I have very little time for anything.
I've done 2 weeks of practicum so far. The 1st week was less than stellar. I wanted to gauge my eyes out with boredom. I know I know that's a little intense but I was seriously bored to death. Unfortunately my practicum advisor and the principal of the school dropped the ball somewhere which left me without a cooperating teacher. So they quickly shuffled me around to a whole bunch of classrooms. Which was okay because this is just 'observation' so really I am getting to see a lot of different teaching styles. However I was in a grade 8 math for a few too many days. The teacher kept giving the students booklets to work on. The students were so uninterested and unengaged. Seriously I don't blame them. I was bored to death. But this past week was much better I was more involved with the students. I got to partake in the "Roots of Empathy" class. It's where a baby comes to class for the students to learn from. Sounds a little corny but it really works. It's not about them taking care of the baby like in family studies. It's about them watching the baby grow and learning about the baby and the babies needs. It's suppose to promote empathy and I think it's a great program.
I have one last essay and this semester is done. I'll be done it shortly after I finish this blog. I'm a little sad that I am 1/4 done my program. I really love my class. I actually kind of miss going to school everyday. This weekend a few of us are going to organize our Ed class and put up posters and start a little resources corner. After the holidays I am going to bring in plants and a worm farm. I am excited!
I intended to make a statement about politics but I am in too good of mood to get started so I'll leave that entry for another time.
What else is new?
I am still waiting to find out if we're accepted to a conference in Victoria in February. If we do get accepted our school will most likely pay for it. Which is awesome. Also it will be a great project for the month of January. Usually January drags on because its so cold. And of course it means I get a trip out West!
I guess not much else is new if I am sitting here for 5mins staring blankly at the screen!
